The Healing Power Of The DrumJoin Robert Lawrence Friedman, MA, a recognized leader in the field of stress management and rhythm-based therapy for this unique program that explores the practical new science of drumming and health.  Research indicates that hand drumming and rhythm-based exercises can improve the immune system, lower stress levels and boost positive emotions.

Mr. Friedman, author of The Healing Power of the Drum – A Psychotherapist Explores the Healing Power of Rhythm (White Cliffs Media, 2001) and The Healing Power of Drum II – A Journey of Rhythm and Stories (Pathway Books, 2010), will provide participants with rhythm games and exercises that will reduce your stress, improve your immune system and promote positive feelings.

No experience is necessary and all drums are provided.

This workshop is recommended for any adult interested in improving their mental, physical and emotional health.  Appropriate for ages up to 101 years old.

Ten percent of all proceeds will be going to the Coalition for Hemophila B.

ROBERT LAWRENCE FRIEDMAN, MA

Robert Lawrence Friedman is an international trainer, psychotherapist and author who has provided his stress management and rhythm-based wellness programs throughout the United States, Europe and Asia for the past thirty-two years.  He was awarded the Hearst Scholar Award in 2014 by the University of Northern Iowa for his innovative work in training and development.

Mr. Friedman is a recognized expert in the fields of stress management and rhythm-based therapeutic protocols.  His first groundbreaking book, published in 2000, The Healing Power of the Drum — A Psychotherapist Explores the Healing Power of Rhythm, introduced the concept of drumming and rhythm as a wellness vehicle. His book explores the power of rhythm to facilitate health in areas including stress management, grief and anger management, Alzheimer’s disease, autism, cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and others.    In addition, his follow-up book, published in 2010,The Healing Power of the Drum II – A Journey of Rhythm and Stories (Pathway Books, 2010) focused on the latest research discovered since the first book was published.  His latest book, How to Relax in 60 Seconds or Less (Healthy Learning, 2011) explores how to relax instantly.  In addition, Mr. Friedman has published over 75 articles on wellness-related issues.

Mr. Friedman has been interviewed for articles in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Times, U.S. News and World Report, My Generation Magazine, Newsday (3 page feature article), Self Magazine and The Daily Beast,. In addition, Mr. Friedman was the Stresswise columnist in Healthwise Magazine for eight years and a columnist for the Healing Rhythms column in Drum! Magazine.  He served as the Co-Chairman of the Health and Wellness Committee of the Percussive Arts Society for twelve years and is currently on the Board of Advisors for the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild.

Mr. Friedman was the Director of the Corporate Stress Management Training Program at Queens College, offering a 72-hour Certification program and the first of its kind in the United States for individuals interested in pursuing the field of corporate stress management training.

Mr. Friedman’s expertise has led to national and international media attention.  He was featured on the year-long Discovery Health Channel documentary, Class of ’75, in which he mentored five highly stressed individuals, including famed golfer, Fred Funk.  Through providing specific stress management strategies, Mr. Friedman helped to create positive and sustained lifestyle changes for all of the participants.  Other appearances have included NBC News, Fox News, NY One NewsThe Alive and Wellness Show (CNBC) and The Today Show (NBC), along with international news programs on Fuji and Sankei Television in Japan.

He has provided his drumming programs to such organizations as American Express, Accenture Corporation, Comedy Central, HBO, Hyatt Hotels, Standard & Poors Global, Pitney Bowes, the RWJBarnabas Health Care System, Cornell Medical Center and New York Hospital, among others.

In addition to offering his programs to the generate population, his work has been offered throughout the country to music therapists, psychologists and educators wishing to augment their current skill set with the latest research and information on this burgeoning new field, to provide alternative methods of working with their respective populations, and for learning unique and clinically-proven alternative methods for managing their own day-to-day stress and burnout.

He has offered his programs internationally throughout Austria, Canada, England, Germany, Ireland, Malaysia, Spain, Switzerland, and Singapore.  Mr. Friedman is an active member of the National Speaker’s Association.
